Thrive High-Protein Multigrain Cereal

by Zac Bayerton

Cereals... yummy! I love cereals. It's amazing how many ways maize can be processed and sold as so many different cereals!

Well, you might have noticed one more on the shelf. It's called Thrive.

Let's look at all the info on the box:

"A convenient, ready-to-eat meal for the whole family. Not suitable for infants under 36 months.

Thrive is a complete delicious meal providing a balance of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, proteins and antioxidants to meet the demans of an active lifestyle. (Active lifestyle is accentuated. I guess this means if you're not active when eating this, you're going to get fat.)

Thrive contains pea protein. Thrive is a unique, rich source of protein. It provides 18 Amino Acids inclusing the 9 essential Amino Acids which our bodies need to built and repair body tissues.

Pea Protein is considered a 'good quality' protein that is easily digested, absorbed and used by the body. Pea protein also provides specific Amino Acids: Lysine and Arginine.

Lysine is not naturally produced by the body and must therefore be supplemented through diet. Lysine supports the normal growth and development of children and plays a role in the maintenance of a healthy immune system.

The B-group Vitamins work together in maintaining ahealthy nervous system. B-Vitamins also help the body's cells convert carbohydrates into energy. The main role of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body; especially the brain and nervous system.

B-Vitamins are not stored in the body and must be replenished every day.

Thrive contains vitamins and minerals which contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

These include the B-Vitamins; which assist the body to make energy from food eaten.

Vitamins B6 and B12 together with Iron help transport oxygen through our bodies. Lack of Iron and Vitamin B12 can result in one feeling tired and having trouble concentrating.

By adding Vitamin C to our diet, our bodies can better absorb iron.

Vitamin A, Vitamin B5, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin H and folic acid and zinc, contribute to the growth, development and repair of tissues in all parts of the body.

Contains Genetically Modified Organisms."

Well, that's basically the interesting things on the packaging.

Now, how does it taste?

It tastes delicious. The texture is a bit rough though, almost like ground up maize. Which it probably is.

A problem I do have with it, is that it is very sweet, due to its containing sugar.

Unfortunately, myself as I'm sure many other people too, don't feel too good after eating sugar. It creates havoc with the blood sugar levels, leaving one feeling tired and depressed and sick.

So, although this cereal is very delicious, and from the information on the box it would appear it would otherwise be good for one to eat too, the sugar it contains makes it unsuitable for me and those who don't react well to sugar.

Unfortunately after two portions, I had to give the rest away to someone who says sugar doesn't affect them as much.

It's a shame really.
